Best and Worst Places to Park in Manhattan and Brooklyn

Parking in New York is not easy. It is exceedingly rare to find an available spot right where you are supposed to be. If you do find an open place to park, it is probably too good to be true. Many spots in NYC come with a slew of rules and regulations prohibiting parking. If you park in one of these spots, it is likely you will come back to a hefty fine sitting on your windshield.

Where are the best and worst places to park in Manhattan and Brooklyn? Where are you most likely to find a spot or a discounted deal on parking?

Trulia recently partnered with Parknav to rate neighborhoods in NYC based on parking availability. The areas were measured on a scale from 0 to 100 with 0 meaning parking is impossible, and 100 meaning parking is easy.

Below are some of the worst neighborhoods in Manhattan to park. All of these areas had a score of 17 or less:

  • Koreatown
  • Civic Center
  • Chelsea
  • Clinton
  • Tribeca

Some of the worst neighborhoods in Brooklyn are as follows:

  • Brooklyn Heights
  • DUMBO
  • Cobble Hill
  • Gowanus

Thankfully not all is lost. There were some neighborhoods in the boroughs with decent scores. Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods of Manhattan were best with parking. For Brooklyn, Southern neighborhoods like Coney Island and Sheepshead Bay are best for finding parking.
