What is a Manhattan Parking Tax Exemption?

Manhattan Parking taxes are 18.375% for all parkers. However, if your vehicle is registered to a Manhattan residence, you may be eligible for a partial tax exemption, which reduces your applicable taxes to 10.375% for monthly parkers. To qualify, you need proof of a Manhattan residence and a copy of your vehicle registration card.

*Please note that tax certificates can cover up to two years from the start date. To continue receiving the tax benefit, you must renew your certificate before the expiration date.

*Please note that tax certificates are vehicle and garage specific. If you change vehicles or move garages you will need to update your tax certificate and receive a new copy from the City to continue receiving the tax reduction.

Once you receive your Manhattan Parking tax exemption from the City, you can either drop it off at the garage or send a photo to one of the following emails: info@gmcparking.com or ar@gmcparking.com. Once we receive a copy, we will update your account and lower the tax rate on your monthly invoice.

Can I get tax credit for past periods?

Because of delays in the application process or complications in getting your certificate, you may receive your certificate a month or longer after applying. GMC can provide up to 3-4 months of back credit, contingent on the tax certificate start date covering the period(s). To get the credit, you must submit your tax certificate to us via email (info@gmcparking.com or ar@gmcparking.com) or at the garage level. Upon receipt of your certificate, we will automatically give you back credit – assuming your certificate information is valid. Back credit will appear on your next month’s statement after submission as a credit.

I did not receive a tax certificate. How do I contact the City?

Unfortunately, there is no direct number to contact the City regarding tax certificates. There are two options, with varying success, to reach out to the City. The first is to call 311 and ask the operator to route you to the “Manhattan Parking Tax Certificate Department.” The second option is to send a message using the link below requesting your tax certificate:
